Film scholar and critic, Bahman Maghsoudlou, has been involved as a panelist, juror and lecturer at a wide variety of film festivals including the Margaret Mead Film Festival, Festival Des 3 Continents, the Pesaro Film Festival, the St. Petersburg "Message to Man" Festival and the San Francisco Film Festival, etc.An author and editor of books and anthologies on cinema, and recipient of the Forough Farrokhzad literary award in Iran (1975), Maghsoudlou book Iranian Cinema (1987), published by New York University's Center for Middle Eastern Studies, is used around the world as a resource on the history of Persian films. This Side of the Mind and the Other Side of the Pupil (1999) is a collection of interviews with nine great directors and his most recent book is Love & Liberty in Cinema (2003). His new book, Grass: Untold Stories, the adventurous life of three Americans who made this classic documentary in Iran in 1924,will be published in USA, 2007.

Maghsoudlou whose films have been selected for more than one hundred Film Festivals has been developing projects for the past few years based on the life and philosophies of Leo Tolstoy and the Political Life and Legacy of Mohammad Mosaddeq.

Iranian Cinema: Searching for the Roots (1900-1979), (dir/producer: Maghsoudlou) is a long documentary that is in progress.

Silence of the Sea (dir: Vahid Mousaian, producer: Maghsoudlou): winner of Ecumenical award at Mannheim Film Festival, 2003, Best Film & Best Screenplay at Croatia Film Festival 2004, Best Music at Asia/Pacific Film Festival, IRAN, and selected for more than 20 festivals among them Sundance film Festival 2004.

Ta'zieh (dir: Parviz Jahed, 2000), executive produced by Maghsoudlou, an academic look at of one of the oldest and most authentic traditions of theater in Iran. Premiered at CIRA 2001, Toronto, Canada. Also at MESA 2001, USA and Popoli Film Festival, Florence Italy, 2003 and Tiburon Film Festival, 2004.

Ahmad Mahmoud: A Noble Novelist (1931-2002),(dir/producer: Maghsoudlou)a long documentary about the prominent Iranian writer, the third in a series about important Iranian artists. Premiered at Berlin Asian Pacific Film Festival and selected for ISIS and MESA Film Festival, 2004 and 15 Annual Celebration of Iranian Cinema, UCLA Film & Television Archive Film Festival, 2005.

Surviving Paradise (dir: Kamshad Kooshan, 1999), produced by Maghsoudlou, this film was premiered at the Cairo International Film Festival and has also been selected for the International Film Festival of India in New Delhi and many more.

Ahmad Shamlou, Master Poet of Liberty (1999), produced by Maghsoudlou, is about the most famous contemporary Iranian poet and intellectual icon. Shamlou (1925-2000) was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature, 1984, presented with the Freedom of Expression Award by the New York based Human Rights Watch, 1991, and received the Stig Dagerman Award in Sweden, 1999.

Life in Fog, (dir: Bahman Ghobadi, 1998). Screened at more than thirty international film festivals throughout 1999. Winner of fifteen international awards, this film is the most awarded short/documentary film in the history of Iranian Cinema.

Seven Servants (dir: Daryush Shokof, 1996), starring Anthony Quinn, David Warner, Alexandra Stewart and Audra McDonald, was Maghsoudlou's first major film as a producer. This film was shown in the competition of the Locarno International Film Festival (on closing night as a Special Event on the Grand Piazza), Toronto, Montreal, Berlin, Kiev, Thessaloniki, New Delhi, etc.

Manhattan by Numbers (dir: Amir Naderi, 1993), Maghsoudlou's first venture as the executive producer of an independent film, was selected in more than thirty (30) international film festivals such as New Films/New Directors in New York and Venice, Chicago, San Sebastian (competition),Toronto, Cairo, London, etc.

The Suitors (dir: Ghasem Ebrahimian, 1988), Maghsoudlou's debut as an actor, was well received in the Directors' Fortnight section of the 1988 Cannes Film Festival.

Mr. Maghsoudlou has produced and directed many television documentaries about the art of cinema, including profiles of film directors Jean Renoir, John Ford, Howard Hawks, Milos Forman and Alfred Hitchcock, written by the veteran American film critic Andrew Sarris. His short film Ardeshir Mohasses & His Caricatures (written, directed and produced, 1972) was selected as one of the best Iranian documentaries before the Revolution at the Leipzig Film Festival 1996.
